A picnic around the turn of the century. This is one of my all-time favorite photos. For one thing, there is an abundance of period detail - the milk carton, the wound leggings, the sailor garb (!) that my great-grandmother appears to be wearing. But there's another thing about this photo that pleases me: it was scanned from a tiny, 2"x3" snapshot. The old cameras, with their black-and-white prints, took incredible pictures. My scan, at 1200 dpi, revealed an amazing wealth of detail for a print so small.
